ISM Purpose Statement
Impact Student Ministries (ISM) is the youth ministry program at Roseau Community Church. You’ve probably heard the saying, “Aim at nothing and you’ll hit it every time,” well, there is no doubt that is true. So, Impact Student Ministries was started to help bring focus and direction to our youth ministry. However, youth ministry itself is not a program, it’s a passion! It is about camps, hayrides, eating smore’s around a campfire, playing night games, watching movies, or just hangin’ out and having fun. But mostly, it is about reaching teens with the life-giving message of Jesus Christ. Yet somewhere in the midst of all the activities and teaching, it is easy to lose focus and direction. When Jesus was asked to sum up the law and the prophets, he provided a seemingly simple two part answer, “Love God with everything you are, and love your neighbor as yourself.” If you’re successful at the first, the second will naturally follow. However, being good at the second is no indication of where you are with the first. Therefore, our primary focus is getting teens to develop a relationship with Jesus, then, with help from the Holy Spirit, they will grow in their love for others as well. Jesus also proclaimed in the Great Commission to go into all the world and teaching people to obey His commandments. Therefore, from the Great Commandments and the Great Commission, Jesus provided an example on which we build our ministry. The five points: worship, discipleship, evangelism, ministry, and fellowship can be found in the ISM Purpose Statement, “Our youth ministry exists to expose students to the love of Jesus, to encourage them to care for one another, and to equip them for their life mission to glorify God.”
